Citizens near Boland Avenue, a residential area roughly 40 miles north of Tampa, alerted the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday evening about a man threatening the safety of nearby children by swinging a sword.

Responding deputies arrived to conduct a welfare check, initially making verbal contact with the subject who remained inside his residence.

Critical Moments Captured

The situation escalated when the man, whose identity remains undisclosed, emerged from his home – not with the reported sword, but brandishing a firearm.

Body-worn camera footage documents the crucial moments just before 8:30 PM, capturing deputies’ commands for the subject to drop his weapon. When these orders went unheeded, a deputy discharged their weapon, striking the individual.

Investigation and Recovery

Following department protocol, deputies immediately provided medical assistance to the wounded subject, who was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Both the initially reported sword and the firearm were recovered from the scene. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has taken charge of the investigation, standard procedure for any deputy-involved shooting.
