LONGMONT, CO – A night of reckless behavior in Colorado ended with two juvenile boys behind bars after allegedly shooting guns from a moving vehicle. The incident unfolded late Sunday, leaving residents in shock and raising questions about the dangerous actions of the young suspects.
The Shootings and Pursuit
At around 10:50 p.m. on Sunday, deputies with the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office were patrolling an area in unincorporated Boulder County, where there had been multiple reports of people firing handguns and rifles from moving vehicles. The increased patrols aimed to curb these dangerous incidents when officers suddenly heard gunshots near the intersection of 119th Street and Oxford Road.
One deputy spotted the suspect vehicle as it fired rounds while driving north on 119th Street. The sheriff’s office quickly began pursuing the vehicle, which continued its reckless path toward the City of Longmont. Although Longmont Police did not participate in the pursuit, officers assisted once the vehicle eventually came to a stop near the 300 block of South Sunset Street.
Arrest and Charges
Upon stopping, two juvenile boys were taken into custody. A subsequent search of the suspects and the vehicle uncovered a handgun along with several rounds of ammunition. Authorities have not released the names of the boys, but the charges against them are serious. They now face accusations of eluding, reckless driving, driving without a valid license, five counts of prohibited use of a weapon, five counts of possession of a handgun by a juvenile, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported during the incident, but the actions of these two boys highlight the dangerous consequences of such reckless behavior.
Motive Still Unknown
As of now, investigators have yet to determine why the juveniles targeted the area or what they were shooting at during their drive. The sheriffâs office has stated that the motive behind the shooting remains unclear, leaving many unanswered questions about the events leading up to the arrest.
