PALOMINAS, AZ – Two 17-year-old U.S. citizens were arrested in Arizona for allegedly smuggling three Mexican nationals across the border. The incident took place near Palominas, a small community close to the U.S.-Mexico border, and was reported by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The arrests shed light on ongoing efforts by authorities to curb illegal border activities.

Border Patrol Spots Suspicious Activity

The case began when U.S. Border Patrol surveillance operators noticed an individual dressed in camouflage in an area known for smuggling operations.

Agents responded by investigating and soon pulled over a black Dodge Ram pickup truck to perform an immigration inspection.

Behind the wheel was a 17-year-old male U.S. citizen, accompanied by a 17-year-old female U.S. citizen as his passenger. Both of the teens are from New Mexico. In the backseat, agents found three men attempting to hide.

Details of the Arrests

The three men in the backseat were Mexican nationals who were illegally present in the United States, each with a prior history of removal from the country.

Authorities seized the truck and arrested the driver and passenger, transporting them to the Brian A. Terry Border Patrol Station for processing.

The three Mexican nationals were also taken into custody and are being processed for removal. They will serve as material witnesses in a human smuggling case against the driver.

According to CBP, the female passenger will not face prosecution at this time.

The arrests mark another instance of authorities cracking down on smuggling attempts along the border, with the investigation ongoing.
