WAKEENY, KS – A 17-year-old teenager, Nikita Casap, was arrested in Kansas following the grim discovery of his mother and stepfather’s bodies in their Waukesha home. The case unfolded after Nikita, a student with a flawless attendance record at Waukesha West High School in Wisconsin, abruptly stopped attending classes for two weeks, raising concerns among school officials and prompting a police welfare check.
Authorities arrived at the family’s residence on February 28 and found Tatiana Casap, Nikita’s mother, dead beneath a pile of clothes. According to the criminal complaint, she had a bullet wound in her shoulder, and her face showed signs of advanced decomposition with dried blood pooling on the floor around her. In the same home, police uncovered the body of Donald Mayer, Nikita’s stepfather, also hidden under clothing. The complaint noted an evident wound to the back of his head.
Suspicious Texts and a Cross-Country Drive
The investigation began when Nikita’s unexcused absences broke his pattern of perfect school attendance, leaving school staff unable to reach his family. Around the same time, Mayer’s work manager received text messages between February 13 and February 25 from Mayer’s phone, stating he was ill and unable to talk by phone. Investigators later described these messages as unusual and potentially suspicious. Adding to the mystery, a vacation hold had been placed on the family’s mail, further delaying any immediate concern.
On the day of the welfare check, Nikita was apprehended approximately 850 miles away during a traffic stop in Wakeeney, Kansas. He was driving his stepfather’s VW Atlas with the family dog inside. Officers spotted a Smith and Wesson .357 Magnum firearm on the passenger-side floorboard in plain view. The gun matched one recently bought by Mayer.
Inside the vehicle, police also found the driver’s licenses of Tatiana Casap and Donald Mayer, along with unused ammunition for the .357 Magnum and spent shell casings. Nikita, who does not have a driver’s license, was charged with one count of theft and one count of operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Consequences
As of now, Nikita has not been charged in connection with the deaths of his mother and stepfather. Police have called the investigation into the fatalities ongoing and active. If convicted on the current charges of theft and driving without consent, Nikita faces up to six years in prison.
The case has left the Waukesha community reeling, as Nikita’s sudden absence from school and the subsequent findings at his home unraveled a troubling sequence of events. Authorities continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the deaths of Tatiana Casap and Donald Mayer, with no additional details released at this time.
