MADISONVILLE, TN – State authorities are investigating after a Monroe County Sheriffâs deputy shot and killed a man who allegedly fired shots outside a Tennessee jail before gaining entry to the building Friday morning.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation on Friday afternoon identified the deceased suspect as 49-year-old David Resmondo. The deputy who shot him has not been named by TBI or the sheriff’s office.
TBI said preliminary investigation indicates Resmondo began firing shots in the parking lot of the Monroe County Justice Center at around 8:30 a.m. Friday. He approached the jail’s front door, fired another shot, and entered the building.
The deputy then confronted Resmondo and fired his service weapon, striking him. TBI said Resmondo later died of his injuries at a local hospital. No one else was injured in the incident.
TBI did not reveal a possible motive for the shooting by Friday afternoon. The investigation is ongoing.
