NASHVILLE, TN – The kitchen has never been my domain. My hubby, Jack, and I have shared more laughs over my kitchen “experiments” than we care to admit. Jack says I’m great at a lot of things—but following a recipe isn’t one of them. That’s why dessert duty at our church potlucks usually falls on someone else.

Recently, though, things changed. At a church gathering in Franklin, Tennessee, the dessert table stole the show. Pies, cakes, cookies—you name it! And right in the center was Sarah, our ‘surrogate grandma’, graciously taking compliments.

Sarah is a treasure. She’s been a part of our lives ever since we moved to Tennessee. Her warm smile and knack for whipping up the perfect dish have made her a go-to for all things comfort food. After that potluck, I couldn’t resist asking her for her dessert secrets.

Sarah laughed, patted my hand, and said, “Sweetheart, if I can make these, so can you.” That was music to my ears! She sat me down and shared three foolproof recipes that even I couldn’t mess up.

Now, I’m sharing them with you—straight from Sarah’s kitchen to yours.

1. No-Bake Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars

These bars are rich, creamy, and ridiculously easy. This is my hungry hubby Jack’s fave!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup melted butter
  • 2 cups graham cracker crumbs
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions:

  1. Mix butter, graham cracker crumbs, powdered sugar, and peanut butter. Press into a pan.
  2. Melt chocolate chips, spread over the top, and refrigerate until set.

No oven needed—just a little patience!

2. Sarah’s 3-Ingredient Cobbler

This one feels like a hug in a bowl.

Ingredients:

  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 2 cans of pie filling (any flavor!)
  • 1 stick of butter

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Spread pie filling in a baking dish. Sprinkle cake mix evenly over the top.
  3. Slice butter and scatter it over the cake mix. Bake for 40-45 minutes.

It’s magic, I swear.

3. Icebox Lemon Pie

Tangy, sweet, and perfect for summer days. This one is my fave!

Ingredients:

  • 1 premade graham cracker crust
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • ½ cup lemon juice
  • 1 tub whipped topping

Instructions:

  1. Whisk together condensed milk and lemon juice. Pour into the crust.
  2. Spread whipped topping over the filling and refrigerate for 2-3 hours.

It’s impossible to mess this up—and it tastes like sunshine.

A Taste of Magic!

Sarah’s recipes have officially turned me into the dessert queen of our potlucks (with a little help from Jack as my taste tester, of course). So, if you’ve been intimidated by baking, take it from me—these recipes are your new best friend.

And if you ever find yourself in Franklin, come to one of our church potlucks. You might just get to meet Sarah and taste her magic firsthand!
