DUNLAP, TN — A Tennessee man, Jonathan Belk, 41, is in custody following a violent incident at his home in Dunlap. The event unfolded on Saturday when Belk returned early from a trip to find his 31-year-old wife in bed with 18-year-old Billy J. Floyd. Authorities allege that Belk stabbed Floyd to death and placed his body in a trash can. The confrontation took place at a residence in the 400 block of Powerline Road, roughly 40 miles north of Chattanooga.
Bloody Scene Greets Police
When officers arrived at the home, they encountered Belk standing in his doorway, covered in blood.
Inside, they found Floyd’s body in a trash can, positioned in a fetal curl. Belk’s wife was also injured during the altercation and was later admitted to a hospital with multiple stab wounds.
Authorities report that Belk admitted to detectives that he attacked Floyd, leading to the young man’s death.
Belk Voices Concern Over Marriage
During questioning, detectives asked Belk if he had any major worries beyond his legal situation. He reportedly expressed anxiety about his marriage, noting that killing Floyd might strain his relationship with his wife.
Belk now faces several charges, including criminal homicide, and is being held at the Sequatchie County Jail.
Victim Remembered Fondly
Billy J. Floyd, known to friends and family as “Lil Bill,” was an 18-year-old from Jasper, Tennessee. He had celebrated his 18th birthday just three days before his death.
According to his obituary, Floyd loved hunting, fishing, riding four-wheelers, and fixing things. Above all, he cherished spending time with loved ones. A family friend has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the costs of Floyd’s funeral.
