LA VERGNE, TN – The former chief of a Tennessee police department, Burrel Davis, has been permanently banned from holding a law enforcement position in the state after a highly publicized scandal involving one of his officers. Davis, who led the La Vergne Police Department during last year’s controversy, was decertified by the Tennessee Peace Officer Standards & Training Commission. The decision, made unanimously, ensures Davis will never again serve as a police officer in Tennessee.

The Scandal Unfolds

The scandal revolved around former officer Maegan Hall, who was found to have been involved in inappropriate relationships with several fellow officers. Hall, who was married at the time, reportedly had an ongoing affair with a sergeant and engaged in sexual encounters with other officers within the department. These incidents included a controversial party and explicit messages exchanged between officers.

Davis, although not accused of participating in any of the physical encounters, was implicated due to his awareness of the inappropriate conduct. According to an internal investigation, Davis had received and responded to suggestive messages and images of Hall sent by other officers. He acknowledged seeing the photos but denied any inappropriate intentions. However, the commission found that his conduct, particularly as a police chief, was unbecoming of his position.

The Fallout

The scandal led to multiple dismissals within the department, including that of both Davis and Hall. Hall later filed a lawsuit claiming that she had been sexually groomed by the officers involved, ultimately reaching a settlement with the city for $500,000.

Davis also pursued legal action, alleging racial discrimination in his termination, but his case was dismissed as it was filed after the deadline for such claims. In his defense, Davis explained that his interactions with the officers were personal and did not reflect his professional responsibilities. He argued that the messages exchanged with his colleagues were between long-time friends and were not intended to affect his work.

  1. I agree with dismissal for all involved. But Hall knew what she was doing and SHOULD NOT have been awarded $500,000.00. Sounds like she had a good time, and got rich in the process

  2. White gal gets a pay out for her lewd behavior while black man gets canned just for knowing about it. THIS is typical for Republican run racist Tennessee.
