MEMPHIS, TN — A peaceful drive turned into serious legal trouble when Tennessee law enforcement intercepted a massive marijuana shipment on Interstate 40, with agents finding 150 pounds of cannabis concealed throughout a rental van.

Drug Bust Details

The West Tennessee Drug Task Force’s 30th District agents pulled over the van in Shelby County. During the stop, officers noticed signs suggesting potential criminal activity.

When the female driver refused to allow a search of the vehicle, agents brought in their secret weapon – Athena, a specially trained K-9 officer.

The Four-Legged Deputy Takes the Lead

Athena’s keen nose proved decisive. The police dog signaled to handlers that something wasn’t right with the van, giving agents probable cause for a thorough search.

Their investigation revealed approximately 150 pounds of marijuana strategically hidden throughout the vehicle.

Legal Proceedings Underway

The driver, whose identity has not been released by authorities, was taken into custody. The case has been handed over to District Attorney General Frederick Agee’s office in the 28th Judicial District for prosecution.
