WASHINGTON, D.C. – Authorities in Virginia said all students and faculty at a private school were accounted for shortly before noon on Thursday after an apparent swatting incident.
The Loudon County Sheriff’s Office said deputies and officers from the Middleburg Police Department responded to The Hill School on 100 block of South Madison Street in Middleburg at around 9:45 a.m. Thursday after a threat was reported against the private school, which serves students in kindergarten through eighth grade.

Multiple roads surrounding the school were shut down while law enforcement searched the area and cleared the premises.
In an update, the sheriff’s office said that all school buildings were checked and cleared by 11:45 a.m., with all students and faculty accounted for.
“At this time, the incident appears to have been a swatting call. However, this remains an active investigation. Deputies are continuing to do patrols in the area as a precaution,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
Swatting involves making a hoax call to 911, reporting a serious enough crime to generate a large law enforcement response at the stated address.
The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective Coderre at (703) 777-1021.
Reminder: All parties are considered innocent before proven guilty. Written by TMX staff, with additional reporting by Jack and Kitty Norton.
