EAGLE PASS, TX — In a dramatic operation at the Camino Real International Bridge, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers intercepted cocaine worth over $472,000, dealing a significant blow to drug trafficking operations in Texas.

Hidden in Plain Sight

The March 19 bust occurred when CBP officers flagged a commercial tractor-trailer for additional screening. What seemed like an ordinary shipment of ceramic bricks turned out to be anything but normal.

High-Tech Detection Meets Old-School Methods

Using a combination of cutting-edge inspection equipment and the keen nose of a CBP canine officer, agents located 16 packages of suspected cocaine.

The total haul weighed in at 35.4 pounds (16.05 kg), with an estimated street value of $472,742.

Swift Consequences

The driver, who had previously enjoyed expedited border crossing privileges through the Free and Secure Trade (FAST) program, faced immediate consequences.

CBP officials revoked the driver’s FAST card and entry documents before returning them to Mexico. The tractor-trailer was seized as part of the investigation.

Ongoing Investigation

Homeland Security Investigations has launched a criminal probe into the incident.

Port Director Pete Beattie emphasized how this seizure demonstrates the effectiveness of their border security measures, particularly noting how participation in trusted trader programs requires maintaining strict supply chain security standards.
