PHARR, TX – Authorities intercepted a shipment of over $880,000 worth of cocaine at the Texas border on November 22, 2024. The cocaine was cleverly concealed inside a truck hauling broccoli from Mexico. The discovery is a significant blow to drug trafficking operations attempting to smuggle illegal substances into the U.S.

Customs Officers Uncover the Cocaine Shipment

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility stopped a tractor-trailer entering from Mexico for inspection. The vehicle, transporting a load of broccoli, was chosen for further scrutiny. During a physical inspection, officers found 28 packages hidden inside the truck. The packages contained 65.96 pounds of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of $880,725.

Port Director Carlos Rodriguez of the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry emphasized the effectiveness of their work, stating, “Our frontline CBP officers continue to exercise resolute vigilance, utilize their training, experience, technology and the end result is this significant seizure of cocaine.”

Investigation and Law Enforcement Efforts Continue

After the cocaine was found, the CBP Office of Field Operations seized the truck, trailer, and drugs. Homeland Security Investigations agents have now launched a criminal investigation to trace the origins and intentions behind the drug shipment.

The seizure highlights the critical role of border enforcement in intercepting illegal goods and preventing drug trafficking from reaching U.S. streets.
