WICHITA FALLS, TX – A routine traffic stop in Wichita County, Texas led to the largest drug seizure in the area’s history. Deputies from the Wichita County Sheriff’s Office uncovered more than 92 pounds of cocaine hidden in a vehicle, marking a significant bust on Wednesday, December 12, 2024.

The Traffic Stop

The incident began when a driver was pulled over for speeding, traveling at 68 mph in a 60 mph zone. The Wichita County Sheriff’s Office noted that the driver displayed extreme nervousness during the encounter and struggled to provide a clear explanation for their travel route.

Discovery of Cocaine

After the driver consented to a search of the vehicle, deputies found several areas that had been altered. Upon further inspection, law enforcement discovered 36 large packages hidden inside the car. These packages field-tested positive for cocaine, leading to a more thorough investigation.

The Seized Drugs and the Driver’s Arrest

The cocaine weighed a total of 92.4 pounds, with an estimated street value of $1.5 million. The driver was arrested and charged with manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance over 400 grams, a first-degree felony. They were booked into the Wichita County Jail.

  1. I think most officers in law enforcement will agree the term “routine” should not be used when describing a traffic stop. There is nothing routine about a traffic stop. There are too many officers no longer with us.
