SIERRA BLANCA, TX – A newborn filly named Dolly has made history as the first foal born into the U.S. Border Patrol’s 100-year legacy. The event marks a milestone for the agency, celebrated at the U.S. Border Patrol Station in Sierra Blanca, Texas.

A Unique Addition to the Horse Patrol

Dolly’s mother, Juanita, gave birth at the Sierra Blanca station, part of the Big Bend Sector’s Horse Patrol detachment.

This unit relies on horses to navigate the rugged terrain along the U.S.-Mexico border, areas inaccessible to vehicles.

The equine team plays a vital role in tracking, detecting, and stopping illegal activity in remote regions while fostering ties with local communities.

Dolly stands out with one striking blue eye, a rare and eye-catching trait. Her birth is the first recorded instance of a foal joining a Border Patrol horse patrol unit in the agency’s century-long existence.

Naming a Future Patrol Partner

The filly’s name, Dolly, was selected from submissions by students at the Sierra Blanca Independent School District.

Chief Patrol Agent Lloyd M. Easterling noted that her arrival is a significant moment for the U.S. Border Patrol, reflecting pride and optimism for the agency’s future.

Dolly and Juanita are under close watch to ensure the newborn grows strong and healthy, with potential to one day join the Border Patrol’s equine ranks.
