Minnesota 2024: The Year Without A Winter…But Why?
Minnesota’s 2024 winter is breaking records with its warmth! Will we see more snow or is spring here to stay? ☀️❄️ #MinnesotaWeather #RecordBreakingWarmth #WinterHeatwave
Minneapolis, Minnesota – The Land of 10,000 Lakes is experiencing a winter like no other, with temperatures soaring to record highs. The Twin Cities have broken six daily records for high temperatures in the past three months. This season is set to be the warmest winter on record, with an average temperature of 29.8 degrees from December 1 to February 25.
Despite a brief cold spell in mid-January and a surprise 7-inch snowfall on Valentine’s Day, the Twin Cities have mostly avoided the chill of Old Man Winter. February’s temperatures are running 13.5 degrees above normal, resembling a typical March in Minnesota.
Meteorologists warn that colder air and a bit of snow are on the way, but warmer temperatures are expected to return soon, with highs in the 50s and 60s forecasted for the weekend.
However, don’t pack away your winter gear just yet. The El Niño pattern that has been keeping the region warm is showing signs of weakening. This could mean that winter storms might still hit the area, as Minnesota is known for its snowy surprises even in April.
The warmth has spread beyond the Twin Cities, with Rochester, Mason City, Charles City, Albert Lea, Austin, and Decorah all setting records for the warmest February day ever. Temperatures in these areas soared into the upper 60s and 70s, shattering previous records.
But the weather is set to take another turn in the next day or two, with a cold front bringing the chance of light snow and temperatures dropping back to more typical winter conditions. However, the warmth is expected to make a comeback by the weekend, with temperatures potentially reaching the 70s again.
