While traveling Europe, Jack and I learned a little trick: if you ever want to get to the oldest, coolest part of a city or town, simply look for the tallest church. Locals often call it Saint Stan’s, and it holds a special place in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Winona. This church’s roots go way back to 1871 when Winona’s Kashubian Polish community decided to create a parish dedicated to St. Stanislaus Kostka. They wanted a place where they could worship in their own language and under the guidance of a Kashubian or Polish pastor.
The church’s story is one of faith and history, and it’s so meaningful that it earned a spot on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
