NEW ORLEANS, LA – A night of heavy drinking in New Orleans, Louisiana took a violent turn when a Delta Airlines flight attendant, who was reportedly blacked out, allegedly slashed a co-worker in the neck during an argument. The incident, which occurred early Monday morning, has left one victim injured and another crew member facing attempted murder charges.

The Violent Outburst in a New Orleans Hotel

Joshua Smith, 36, had been partying with several colleagues when they began noticing his behavior growing erratic on the way back to their hotel around 3:15 a.m. The group attempted to guide Smith back to his room, but an argument soon escalated, and Smith lashed out, injuring a female co-worker.

According to police, Smith slashed her on both her arm and neck during the confrontation. The woman managed to escape, fleeing to another floor of the hotel in an attempt to get away.

Smith, not backing down, pursued her, and a hotel security guard intervened. In the chaos that followed, Smith also attacked the guard, slashing him on the thumb before being restrained. While the weapon used in the assault has not been disclosed, it’s clear the situation quickly spiraled out of control.

Smith’s attorney has stated that the flight attendant has no memory of the violent outburst. According to the lawyer, Smith had been drinking heavily throughout the night and blacked out during the incident. The attorney maintains that Smith did not intend to kill anyone, suggesting that the attack was an unfortunate consequence of his impaired state.

Delta Airlines Responds to the Incident

Delta Airlines has expressed its firm stance on the matter, emphasizing its zero-tolerance policy for violence, both among employees and towards them. The airline confirmed it would fully cooperate with law enforcement as the investigation continues. While the incident has brought serious consequences for Smith, the airline has yet to comment on what steps will be taken regarding his employment status.

Smith’s actions have raised significant concerns about the potential dangers of excessive drinking among employees in high-stress roles, like flight attendants.
