Kandiyohi County, Minnesota – We recently received an intriguing email from a reader of our blog who grew up near a mysterious road in rural Kandiyohi County, Minnesota. Known to locals as Timber Lake Road, this stretch of pavement has been the subject of eerie tales and unexplained phenomena for decades.

A Spooky Tale from a Reader

The reader, who spent his teenage years exploring the road with friends, shared stories of a ghostly woman who allegedly appears on the road or in nearby ditches, wailing for her lost children. Despite their efforts, the group never encountered the spirit firsthand, but the legend persists.

This email reads like the start of a real-life Midwest X-Files case, so my hubby Jack and I knew we had to research the story. I guess you can think of us as your local Mulder and Scully – except we’d rather be eating tater tot hotdish than fighting mysterious government forces!

A Tragic History

The reader also mentioned a nearby residence just off US Highway 71, once home to a man named Scriver Olson. In 1984, Olson was brutally murdered, and the case remains unsolved to this day. Some locals even speculate that the Timber Lake spirit may have played a role in the crime.

Surprisingly, the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Department seems reluctant to delve into the case further, even with the potential of using familial DNA to crack the decades-old mystery.

Shadows in the Woods

As the sun sets on Timber Lake Road, the thick forests and wetlands of nearby Sibley State Park take on an ominous atmosphere. There are MANY reports of hauntings on Timber Lake Road. Locals report seeing shadowy figures darting through the trees and eerie red eyes blinking from the darkness.

A Haunted Cemetery

Along the road stands a gated cemetery, rumored to be the final resting place of the ghostly woman and her children. Visitors claim to have seen the spirits of the children wandering among the graves, while others report hearing the chilling sounds of howling dogs, wailing, and unearthly screams.

The Woman in White (or Red)

Perhaps the most unsettling aspect of the Timber Lake Road legend is the recurring sightings of the ghostly woman herself. Descriptions vary, with some witnesses claiming she appears in white, while others insist she’s clad in red. Regardless of her appearance, many have reported seeing her wandering the road, forever searching for answers.

Unanswered Questions

What does this tormented spirit want? Is she a benevolent presence or a harbinger of harm? These questions have plagued locals for years, and the only way to uncover the truth may be to brave the haunted road yourself.

I’ve read and heard stories about Timber Lake Road and Colfax Cemetery alongside. I investigated both in August of 2023. I videoed orbs in the cemetery and a young man’s spirit playing guitar on the road. It was a successful investigation and I’m planning another this year. I investigated four cemeteries in 2023 and am planning more for this year. Vicksburg & an Indian cemetery are my first return investigations.

  2. Hi Tom! Wow that’s so cool. Especially about the orbs. Good luck with your future investigations – it’s definitely a special place, for sure! Thanks for reading and commenting! – Kitty
