TULSA, OK – Multi-Vehicle Pileup Leaves Highway Littered With EGGspensive Cargo! A chaotic scene unfolded on an Oklahoma highway Tuesday as a semi-truck lost control in heavy snow, slamming into other vehicles and spilling its cargo—hundreds of cases of eggs—across the roadway. The crash, part of a multi-vehicle pileup, left drivers navigating not just treacherous ice, but also shattered eggshells and yolks coating the pavement.
Semi-Truck Wrecks in Freezing Conditions
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol confirmed the accident happened on the Will Rogers Turnpike, close to the Missouri border.
The semi-truck, struggling against icy conditions, became entangled in a crash involving multiple vehicles.
Authorities released images from the crash site, showing mangled trucks stalled in the middle of the snow-covered highway. Scattered among the wreckage were dozens of egg cartons, their contents smashed and spilling onto the frozen pavement.
“Expensive Cargo” Lost in the Crash
“Fortunately, there were only minor injuries,” troopers reported. “But the semi was hauling eggs! Expensive cargo right now.”
The loss comes at a time when egg prices remain high due to ongoing supply chain issues and outbreaks of bird flu that have forced farmers to cull millions of birds.
Dangerous Winter Weather Leads to Wrecks Across the State
Oklahoma was gripped by an arctic blast Tuesday, with extreme cold warnings and winter storm alerts in place. Temperatures plunged into the single digits, with wind chills dropping below zero.
Authorities had urged drivers to stay off the roads, warning that black ice and snowdrifts could turn highways into death traps.
By Tuesday evening, Oklahoma Highway Patrol had already responded to a staggering number of incidents: 237 crashes with no injuries, 59 crashes resulting in injuries, and 170 motorists stranded and in need of assistance.
As the storm continued into Wednesday, officials warned that road conditions would remain dangerous, urging drivers to use extreme caution—or avoid travel altogether. Stay at home and eat some comfort food… maybe an omelette?
