UFO Capital Showdown: Wisconsin’s Cosmic Corners
Ever thought Wisconsin was just about cheese and lakes? π€π§
Think again! Get ready to be abducted by the charm and mystery of three unique towns vying for the title of “UFO Capital of Wisconsin.” Let’s set off on a journey to Belleville, Dundee, and Elmwood! π
My hubby Jack and I have actually seen a UFO before! Have you? Jack was so inspired by our sighting he’s even writing a book about UFO sightings in the Midwest! If you have a fun story or sighting you want to tell us about, just email: jackandkittyxo@gmail.com – we’d love to hear about it! π»
Dundee: The Cosmic Heart of Wisconsin
First up, meet Dundee, a peaceful spot near Long Lake. Nothing seems unusual, until you step into Benson’s Hide-A-Way. This quirky bar labels itself as the “UFO Headquarters” and let’s just say, it lives up to the name. π
Inside, you’re welcomed by alien posters, green inflatables, and even an “alien in a jar.” Yup, you read that right! The owner, the late Bill Benson, was a lifelong believer in extraterrestrial phenomena. Visitors are encouraged to share their own strange sightings too. π½
When we stopped by for a visit a few years ago, Jack claimed he really loved talking with Bill…but I think we stayed so long because they serve some darn good Wisconsin brew! Hehe.
Oh, and every July, the town celebrates “UFO Daze.” A gathering of sky gazers and storytellers who swear they’ve seen things up there. So, if you’re looking for a galaxy far, far away right here in Wisconsin, Dundee is your spot. πΈπ»
Elmwood: Wisconsin’s Eerie Encounter Central
Next, let’s head west to Elmwood. This peaceful little town has its fair share of secrets, most notably a series of strange sightings dating back to 1975. π
Elmwood Police Officer George Wheeler once spotted a flaming red ball in the sky. Then, he had a creepier encounter with an orange object hovering over a hill. Soon after, his radio malfunctioned and he was found almost unconscious. Spooky, right?
You might want to time your visit for the last weekend in July when Elmwood hosts “UFO Days.” Expect a weekend packed with stories that are out of this world! πΈπ₯
Belleville: Cosmic Lights and Constellation Controversies
Last but not least, there’s Belleville, a charming town with its own cosmic tale. In 1987, locals reported brilliant lights in the sky. π
The sightings were so credible that UFO investigators got involved. While some naysayers argue it was just a star from the Orion constellation, the town’s cops beg to differ.
Belleville also hosts an annual “UFO Days” event around Halloween, complete with saucer tosses and an alien costume ball. Grab your alien detector; you’re in for a treat! πΈπ
Bonus: Manitowoc’s Slice of Space History
While we’re on the topic of cosmic encounters, let’s give a quick shoutout to Manitowoc. In 1962, a fragment of the Russian satellite, Sputnik IV, crash-landed here. The town commemorates this with a lively Sputnikfest every September. π°π
