PONCE, PUERTO RICO U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Thursday announced the seizure of more than 600 pounds of cocaine from a vessel in the waters near Puerto Rico on Wednesday, and two arrests.

A CBP P-3 Orion maritime surveillance aircraft spotted a vessel approximately 43 miles south of Ponce, Puerto Rico, heading north on Wednesday.

The crew from the Ponce CBP Air and Marine Operations Marine Unit deployed a vessel to intercept the suspect vessel, described as a 27-foot blue and white boat with two 75 HP Yamaha outboard motors.

Agents and officers boarded the vessel and found two men described as citizens of the Dominican Republic, and a Border Patrol K9 alerted to the presence of narcotics.

Officers found 11 bales of cocaine weighing 663.15 pounds, worth an estimated $6 million.

The seized cocaine, the vessel, and the two suspects were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Caribbean Corridor Strike Force (CCFS) for further investigation, CBP said.
