BRIGHAM CITY, UT — Box Elder County Judge Kevin Christensen, aged 64, was arrested on Thursday by the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force on multiple charges. The arrest in Utah, reported by the West Valley City Police Department, followed an investigation into his activities on the KIK messaging platform, where authorities uncovered several explicit chat threads with underage girls.
Explicit Online Behavior Uncovered
The investigation began on February 28 after authorities received information that Christensen was using KIK to discuss graphically abusing children.
According to jail records, he faces two counts of enticing a minor, two counts of attempted exploitation of a minor, and two counts of dealing materials harmful to a minor—all felony charges.
Investigators found evidence of inappropriate chats dating back to September of the previous year, including exchanges with adults about his detailed interest in children. He is also accused of soliciting graphic images of minors from these adults.
In one specific instance on November 2, 2024, Christensen allegedly engaged in explicit chats with a user claiming to be a 13-year-old girl. During this exchange, he sent the minor a video of an adult male performing a graphic act and later claimed their conversations were just fantasy.
In September, he reportedly communicated with someone claiming to be a 16-year-old girl, sending a lewd image in return for one he received.
Breach of Public Trust
Christensen’s actions have drawn sharp criticism due to his position as a judge.
A police report stated that his behavior significantly erodes public confidence in the criminal justice system, given the trust placed in him.
An affidavit described him as a clear danger to the community based on the evidence of his conduct.
Judicial Career and Consequences
Appointed to the Box Elder County Justice Court in May 1996, Christensen has served as a judge for nearly three decades.
A graduate of Gonzaga University School of Law, he worked in private practice before his judicial role and received the Scott M. Matheson Award in 2006 for his contributions to law-related education. His bio notes he frequently spoke to youth and civic groups about the court system’s structure and function.
Following his arrest, county officials placed Christensen on administrative leave without pay. He is currently being held without bail at Davis County Jail as the legal process unfolds.
A Moment for Reflection

The young victims and their families, whose lives were violated by these disturbing acts, deserve compassion and unwavering support as they navigate the pain inflicted by someone in a position of trust. The Box Elder County community, shaken by the arrest of a long-standing judge, stands together in grappling with the betrayal of public faith revealed through this case. Despite this dark chapter, hope persists for a future where justice prevails, trust is rebuilt, and vigilance protects the vulnerable from such harm. — Jack and Kitty Norton, Founders and Editors
