WETHERHILL CANYON, UT – Authorities are investigating after a Utah man fell off a houseboat in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and drowned on Sunday.

The National Park Service said Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Rangers were notified at around 3 a.m. Sunday that a missing person had fallen overboard from a houseboat on Lake Powell, in Wetherill Canyon, about 40 boating miles from the Glen Canyon Dam in San Juan County, Utah.

Jackson Roy Law, 41, fell more than 20 feet from the upper level of the privately owned houseboat into the water.

Along with park rangers, the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, and the Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation provided assistance. Classic Air Medical searched the area by helicopter, but there was no sign of Law.

The Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Dive Team recovered Law’s body at around 12:36 p.m. Sunday, and he was pronounced dead by rangers at the scene.

No further information was available about the circumstances surrounding Law’s fall from the houseboat.

The incident is being investigated by the National Park Service, San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, and San Juan County Medical Examiner’s Office.
