ST. PAUL, MN – A recent EasyJet flight faced a chaotic situation when a vape pen allegedly exploded, causing panic among passengers. The incident occurred as the plane was preparing to depart from Heraklion airport in Greece to Gatwick, London.
According to reports, a bag containing e-cigarettes and a power bank suddenly ignited, filling the cabin with smoke. Passengers reported hearing strange noises before smoke began to spread, leading to alarm and confusion.
As the situation escalated, emergency procedures were enacted. Passengers evacuated using emergency slides, with all 236 onboard safely exiting the aircraft. Ground staff quickly assisted those leaving the plane.
EasyJet confirmed that the evacuation occurred prior to takeoff due to the fire. Fire services responded promptly, and the cabin crew ensured passengers were evacuated according to safety protocols.
After the incident, passengers were allowed to return briefly to collect their belongings. A scorch mark was noted on the cabin floor, highlighting the seriousness of the situation. Fortunately, no one suffered serious injuries, although one individual did experience a minor friction burn from the slide.
Regulations regarding e-cigarettes allow passengers to carry these devices on flights in Europe, but recharging them onboard is prohibited.
The Transportation Security Administration also permits electronic smoking devices in carry-on luggage, provided the batteries are removed. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to safety regulations while traveling.
