FAYETTEVILLE, NC – A North Carolina suburb sits at the center of a puzzling mystery as Clinton Bonnell, a 50-year-old retired Green Beret, has been unaccounted for since late January. Last seen on January 27, the veteran was carving out a new path in life, training to become a physician assistant at Methodist University. His sudden absence from class the following day sparked concern, pulling his family and community into a frantic search for answers.

A Routine Day Turns Mysterious

Bonnell, a Fayetteville resident and former Fort Bragg soldier, began January 27 like any other day.

His sister reported that he hit the Fit4Life gym for a workout before heading to campus. That was the last time anyone could confirm his location.

Standing six feet tall with brown hair and eyes, the 195-pound veteran was dressed in a black hoodie, brown pants, and a plaid button-down shirt when he vanished.

An Unexpected Absence

When Bonnell failed to appear for his physician assistant class the next day, classmates and university staff took notice.

Known for his reliability, the married father of a daughter didn’t strike anyone as someone who would simply walk away.

His sister called the situation suspicious, pointing to his steady character and military background as reasons for unease.

Military Skills Raise Questions

Years spent as a Green Beret equipped Bonnell with self-defense training and survival know-how, making his disappearance even more perplexing.

His sister wonders if those skills point to foul play, given his ability to handle himself in tough spots.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office has stepped in, with Detective Sergeant J. McLeod leading the case.

Call for Answers

Authorities urge anyone with details to come forward. Bonnell’s family waits anxiously as the days stretch on, now nearing a month without a trace.

Contact the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office at (910) 677-5548 if you have information that could crack this case wide open. Help bring this American hero home!
