WASHINGTON, D.C. – A man from Virginia, who recently spoke to the media about his distress over his wife’s disappearance, has now been charged with her murder and accused of hiding her body.

Naresh Bhatt, 37, reported his wife, 28-year-old Mamta Kafle Bhatt, missing on August 5, days after she was last seen on July 31. Authorities have since arrested him on charges related to the concealment of a dead body, a serious offense in Virginia.

In the face of such tragic and senseless loss, our hearts ache for those affected. As we grapple with the darkness of this situation, we can find comfort in knowing that God’s love is steadfast, even when the world feels overwhelmingly broken.

According to a police report, investigators believe Naresh murdered Mamta at their home in Manassas Park on or around July 30, 2024. The report cites significant digital and forensic evidence that points to her death, with indications that her body was moved out of the house afterward.

The couple, who had been together for over three years, have a one-year-old daughter. Police conducted a welfare check at their Heather Court residence, located about 32 miles southwest of Washington, DC, on August 2.

During this visit, Naresh provided some information but did not file a missing person report for his wife.

He claimed she had gone to visit relatives in New York or Texas and had destroyed her phone before leaving. However, investigators later found that she had no relatives in either state, and her phone continued to receive data until it stopped functioning on August 1.

Naresh eventually reported Mamta missing on August 5, but by then, authorities had already observed that she had ceased all contact with her husband, family, and friends, and had not been active on social media or at work.

In the days between his wifeā€™s disappearance and his arrest, Naresh gave emotional interviews to the media, describing the situation as a ā€œterrible timeā€ and expressing how he and his baby were “suffering.”

He also mentioned that Mamta had gone missing before but claimed he never reported those incidents to the police.

During a search of the couple’s home, detectives found blood splatters leading from the master bedroom to the bathroom, although the DNA had not yet been tested.

Investigators also discovered that Naresh purchased knives from a Walmart in Chantilly on the day his wife is believed to have been killed.

The following day, he was seen buying cleaning products, including Lysol and Febreze, from another Walmart, which authorities suspect may have been used to clean up the crime scene.

Authorities also believe Naresh was planning to leave Virginia, as they found a packed suitcase, clothes missing from hangers, and his passport readily available. Additionally, witnesses informed police that he had recently sold his Tesla and was attempting to sell his home.

Naresh is currently being held without bond and is set to appear for a bond hearing on Monday. Meanwhile, Mamtaā€™s parents, who reside in Nepal, have been granted an emergency visa to come to the U.S. to take custody of their granddaughter, who has been in social services’ care since Naresh’s arrest.

This tragedy reminds us that evil and suffering are not part of God’s will, but we can seek refuge in His love during these painful times. As Psalm 46:1 reminds us, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” May this truth bring comfort and healing to those who are grieving.
