ST. PAUL, MN – A fresh new survey has uncovered a striking figure: the average Minnesotan would require at least $287,731 tucked away to wave goodbye to their job and embark on a worldwide adventure. Conducted by Talker Research for Travelbinger, this eye-opening poll of 2,000 people digs into the cash threshold for swapping daily grinds for global roaming.

What’s the Price Tag for Freedom?

The numbers vary wildly depending on who you ask. A hefty 32% of those surveyed insist they’d need over $500,000 before they’d even consider clocking out for good and jetting off. On the flip side, 18% claim they’d take the leap with just $50,000 in their pocket. Meanwhile, 17% stand firm—no amount of money could convince them to trade their routine for a suitcase and a passport.

Age plays a big role in these estimates. Baby Boomers, for instance, say they’d need at least $335,000 to feel secure enough to travel full-time. Gen Z, however, sets their bar lower, averaging $211,000 as their ticket to freedom.

Dreaming Big with a Million Bucks

What if $1 million dropped into their laps? The survey asked that too.

Topping the list, 37% would splurge on a dream vacation with friends and family. Another 24% would kick off a road trip—either crisscrossing the U.S. or exploring foreign highways.

For 21%, famous landmarks like the Eiffel Tower or Statue of Liberty call their name, while 19% crave historical gems like Egypt’s Great Pyramids or India’s Taj Mahal. Bucket-list ambitions also surfaced—18% envision safaris in Africa, chasing the Northern Lights, or plunging into Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.

Travel Styles Revealed

Preferences diverge further when it comes to style.

Frequent weekend escapes appeal to 18%, matched by those who’d opt for “slow travel,” lingering months in each spot. Luxury stays tempt 17%, and 15% would park themselves long-term at a dream destination. Only 4% would hand the million back, uninterested in the travel itch altogether.

This fascinating snapshot lays bare the financial tipping point for Americans ready to chase horizons—and how they’d spend a windfall to make it happen. What do you think? How much money do YOU need? Let us know in the comments section below because your opinion matters!
