LOS ANGELES, CA – Hannah Kobayashi, a 30-year-old photographer, is at the center of a complex case that began with her mysterious disappearance in California and ended with her safe return from Mexico. New reports suggest her trip from Hawaii to New York City was part of a larger scheme involving a fake marriage for a green card. Kobayashi had planned the journey with individuals who may have been involved in a green card fraud scheme, potentially leading to serious legal consequences.
The Disappearance and Return
Kobayashi vanished after departing from Los Angeles International Airport, traveling with her ex-boyfriend, Amun Muniz-Miranda, his green card wife, Marianne, and Alan Cacace, an Argentine national whom she had secretly married.
After disappearing, she was found in Mexico more than a month later, prompting relief from her family who had been concerned for her safety. During the time she was missing, her family’s distress grew as she sent cryptic messages and boarded a bus headed for the Mexican border.
Kobayashi’s family had launched a GoFundMe campaign to aid in the search, which had raised $50,000. However, after news of the circumstances surrounding her disappearance emerged, her family offered refunds to anyone who had contributed, a move made public in a recent update on the campaign.
Alleged Green Card Marriage Scheme
According to multiple sources, Kobayashi’s planned NYC trip was part of an effort to create the appearance of legitimate relationships, particularly with her secret husband, Cacace.
The group, including Cacace, allegedly wanted to photograph themselves at popular tourist spots in New York to fabricate evidence of their marriages in case immigration officials grew suspicious. These photos were intended to help prove that their marriages were not fraudulent.
Cacace, who reportedly paid Kobayashi $15,000 for their marriage, was allegedly attempting to obtain a green card through the arrangement. In return, Kobayashi was promised an additional sum after the necessary immigration paperwork was processed. The plan, which seemed to unravel after Kobayashi went missing, has raised serious questions about the legality of the marriages involved.
Legal Implications and Ongoing Investigation
Federal authorities are now involved in the case, as marriage fraud is a crime that can result in significant penalties, including up to five years in prison.
While there is no official confirmation of the marriage between Kobayashi and Cacace, sources close to her confirm that she had shown colleagues wedding photos. Some of her co-workers were aware of the scheme, though the full extent of her involvement remains unclear.
While no solid legal proof has been presented yet regarding the alleged marriage, the FBI is reportedly investigating the situation, considering the possibility of green card fraud. Despite the serious allegations, Kobayashi’s family has refrained from commenting on the details, instead focusing on her safe return and requesting privacy as they move forward from the ordeal.
