Benefits of Music and Movement for Young Children

Here’s why your child will love it and why it’s great for their development:

  • Boosts Physical Activity: The lively beat and cumulative dance moves encourage kids to jump, twirl, and groove along with Jack and his funky cats and cows. Moving to music helps develop gross motor skills, coordination, and balance while burning off that endless preschool energy.
  • Enhances Cognitive Growth: The song’s repetitive lyrics and building pattern make it easy for kids to follow and predict what’s next. This repetition strengthens memory, language skills, and pattern recognition, key building blocks for early learning.
  • Sparks Creativity and Confidence: Singing and dancing with Jack’s acoustic guitar vibes and playful characters inspires self-expression. Kids can invent their own moves, boosting creativity and confidence as they join the fun.
  • Fosters Social Connection: The engaging, group-dance vibe encourages kids to sing and move together, promoting teamwork and social skills whether at home or in a classroom.
  • Delivers Pure Fun: With silly animals, a catchy tune, and a hilarious Grandpa Sven joke at the end, this video keeps kids giggling and entertained, making learning feel like play.

Here’s a little song called, Skip To My Lou
just a little song called, Skip To My Lou
Here’s a little song called, Skip To My Lou
Skip to my Lou, my darling
Lou, Lou, skip to my Lou
Lou, Lou, skip to my Lou
Lou, Lou, skip to my Lou
Skip to my Lou, my darling

Ok now, keep on skipping
but I need your help. We’re gonna sing
about a cat. So we’re gonna need to go “Meow.”

Cats in the buttermilk, meow, meow
Cats in the buttermilk, meow, meow
Cats in the buttermilk, meow, meow
Skip to my Lou, my darlin’.

Lou, Lou, meow
Lou, Lou, meow
Lou, Lou, meow
Skip to my Lou, my darling

You were a great cat! Can you be a cow? Moo. Keep on skipping, we need to see those skipping cows!

Cows in the corn field, moo moo moo
Cows in the corn field, moo moo moo
Cows in the corn field, moo moo moo
Skip to my Lou, my darling

Lou, Lou, moo
Lou, Lou, moo
Lou, Lou, moo
Skip to my Lou, my darling

Good cow sounds! Good cat sounds! Good skipping.
Let’s do this one more time. Here we go!

Here’s a little song called, Skip To My Lou
just a little song called, Skip To My Lou
Here’s a little song called, Skip To My Lou
Skip to my Lou, my darling

Can you skip really, really, really high. Let’s see how high you can skip!

Lou, Lou, skip to my Lou
Lou, Lou, skip to my Lou
Lou, Lou, skip to my Lou
Skip to my Lou, my darling

(Bonus joke at the end!)

About The Zinghoppers!

Hey there, friends! We’re thrilled you’ve found us!

We’re Jack and Kitty, high school sweethearts and best friends since we were 14, now married soulmates. We’ve worn lots of hats over the years – traveling the country in our old beat-up pickup truck as bluegrass musicians, playing rowdy tunes in honky-tonks back in the day, teaching preschool, writing books, and even serving as ordained ministers! But through it all, two things never changed: our love for each other and our passion for educating, entertaining, and inspiring folks.

Today, from our preschool show to the pages of our books, our mission is to spread joy and celebrate the simple things in life.

Our colorful Zinghoppers characters (Penelope the Possum, Olo the Donkey, Coconuts the Kangaroo, and their pals) were born in our classroom as sock puppets. When parents and fellow teachers kept asking for more, we knew we had something special. So, we hit the road as digital nomads, traveling the back roads of America’s heartland, and started a blog to share our songs and stories with families and educators.

We’re not fancy folks with deep pockets, but we pour our hearts into everything we do. From writing the songs and creating animations to “lending” our voices to our Zinghoppers friends, Jack and I do it all ourselves. Why? Because we believe in spreading hope, kindness, and good old-fashioned honesty to the world – one child at a time.

To all the teachers, parents, and caregivers out there shaping young hearts and minds: YOU are our heroes. Thank you for nurturing imagination and learning. We’re so grateful to be on this journey with you!

With love,
Jack & Kitty 💛
