LAFOURCHE PARISH, LA – Two Louisiana high school students are facing serious charges after allegedly creating fake online accounts and fabricating messages to falsely accuse a male teacher of sending inappropriate communications. The charges have sparked concerns about the growing risks of digital manipulation and its impact on reputations.
The False Allegations and Investigation
The investigation began on December 18 after a concerned party reported that a teacher at Central Lafourche High School had allegedly sent inappropriate messages to a 16-year-old student.
As detectives delved deeper into the case, they discovered the involvement of two teenage girls, aged 15 and 16, who were linked to conversations on an online messaging platform.
According to authorities, the girls fabricated messages, created fake accounts, and shared screenshots with friends to make it seem like the teacher was the one behind the inappropriate messages.
The sheriff’s office launched a thorough investigation, obtaining search warrants for the phones and online accounts of everyone involved. Their findings revealed that the teacher had not sent any messages or photos to the girls. One of the girls later admitted her role in the scheme.
Charges and Legal Consequences
Both girls have been charged with multiple offenses, including one count of false swearing for the purpose of violating public health or safety, cyberstalking, and online impersonation.
Authorities released them into their parents’ custody under electronic monitoring as the legal process moves forward.
Reactions from Authorities and School Officials
Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre commented on the case, stating, “Someone’s life can be instantly ruined by a false allegation, and I am proud that our investigators were able to get to the bottom of this. Technology has made it very easy for people to try to manipulate the truth, but technology also makes it easy for investigators to ultimately find the truth.”
Meanwhile, Lafourche Parish Schools Superintendent Jarod Martin expressed shock over the actions of the students.
“We are shocked and appalled to learn of the actions of two of our students,” Martin said.
