A Heart for Service

Winona, Minnesota – Winona Police Sergeant Anthony Wurst has always had a heart for serving his community and supporting his fellow officers. Now, he’s taking his commitment to the next level by participating in the Law Enforcement United, Road to Hope bicycle ride in May 2024.

The Road to Hope is a challenging 260-mile ride that spans three days, starting in Chesapeake, Virginia and ending in Washington DC during police week. The event is designed to honor fallen officers and support their families in their time of need.

Hometown heroes like Sergeant Wurst are just one of the many reasons my hubby Jack and I love calling Winona, Minnesota home. Planning a visit? We wrote the Ultimate Guide to Visiting Winona.

Roughing It for a Reason

Participating in the Road to Hope is no easy feat. Riders must train extensively to prepare for the physically demanding journey, which includes tackling hills and riding in group formation. The days are long, starting early and ending late, and riders must be prepared to face various weather conditions, from rain to heat to cold.

But for Sergeant Wurst and his fellow riders, the challenges are worth it. They know that every mile they ride and every dollar they raise goes towards helping the families of officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Making a Difference, One Mile at a Time

To participate in the Road to Hope, each rider must raise a minimum of $1,800. Sergeant Wurst is calling on his community to help him reach this goal and make a difference in the lives of fallen officers’ families.

“Every donation, no matter how small, can make a big impact,” says Sergeant Wurst. “By coming together as a community, we can show our support for those who have given so much to keep us safe.”
