WINONA, MN – A quiet Thursday morning in our usually peaceful small hometown of Winona, Minnesota turned chaotic when police responded to reports of a gunshot on the 300 block of W 10th Street. A 27-year-old man is now in custody, and the victim remains in critical condition after being flown to a Wisconsin hospital.

According to the Winona Police Department, officers arrived at the scene around 4:22 a.m. to find an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Witnesses told police that an argument had taken place between the victim and the suspect, Cole Robert Cameron, prior to the shooting.

Police Arrest Local Suspect

Cameron, a 27-year-old resident of Winona, was interviewed along with other witnesses at the scene. Following the interviews, police arrested Cameron on charges of 1st Degree Assault. He is currently being held at the Winona County Jail.

Victim Airlifted to Wisconsin Hospital

Emergency responders transported the 35-year-old male victim to Winona Health, where his condition required advanced care. He was flown by helicopter to Gundersen Health in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and remains in critical condition as of this report.
