RACINE COUNTY, WI – A school bus in Norway, Wisconsin, landed upside down in a pond Tuesday morning after colliding with another vehicle. Fortunately, the bus was empty of children at the time of the crash.
Crash Details: Bus Collides with Pontiac Sedan
Around 6:11 a.m. on November 26, 2024, deputies from the Racine County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of State Trunk Highway 36 and South Wind Lake Road. According to authorities, the school bus was traveling west on South Wind Lake Road and came to a stop at a stop sign at Highway 36.
The driver then attempted to cross the highway but failed to yield the right of way to a Pontiac sedan heading south on Highway 36. The sedan collided with the bus, and the impact caused the bus to flip over into a shallow pond.
Driver Safely Escapes Without Injury
When deputies arrived, body-worn camera footage revealed the overturned bus in the pond, with the driver safely outside the bus through the rear emergency exit. The sheriff’s office confirmed that the bus was not carrying any children at the time, and the pond was only a few feet deep, preventing further risk.
“Fortunately, the school bus was only occupied by the driver, there were no children on board, and the pond was only a few feet deep,” said the Racine County Sheriff’s Office.
No Injuries Reported
Despite the severity of the crash, no injuries were reported. Both the driver of the bus and the other vehicle involved in the collision were unharmed. The quick response from law enforcement ensured that the situation did not result in any further harm.
