MIAMI, FL – The long arm of the law has reached Florida, where a woman accused of drugging, kidnapping, and robbing two U.S. soldiers abroad has finally been brought to justice. Inside a Miami courtroom, the disturbing details of a brazen crime committed thousands of miles away in Colombia are now coming to light.

What began as a casual night out for two American servicemen in BogotĆ”ā€™s Zona T district quickly spiraled into a nightmare. The soldiers, on a brief assignment in Colombia, were allegedly targeted by three individuals who executed a well-planned attack, leaving them robbed of their valuables and launching an international legal battle thatā€™s still unfolding.

The Charges and Accusations

Kenny Julieth Uribe Chiran, a 35-year-old Colombian national, was extradited to the U.S. last Friday. She appeared in a Miami court on Monday, where she faced charges related to the kidnapping and assault of the U.S. soldiers.

Uribe Chiran, along with two co-conspirators, is accused of drugging the soldiers in a BogotĆ” bar, incapacitating them, and then kidnapping them to rob their personal items. The stolen items included wallets, credit cards, debit cards, and cell phones.

The charges brought against Uribe Chiran include kidnapping and conspiracy to kidnap an internationally protected person, assault, and conspiracy to assault. These charges are tied directly to the soldiers’ status as members of the U.S. military, which provides them with international protections.

Co-Conspirators in Custody

The case has already seen legal action against two of Uribe Chiran’s co-conspirators. Arango Castellanos, who was extradited in May 2023, pleaded guilty to his involvement in the crime. He was sentenced to 48 years and nine months in prison. Meanwhile, Silva Ochoa, who was extradited from Chile in April 2023, awaits his trial, which is scheduled for November this year.

The FBI, in collaboration with the Colombian National Police, has been instrumental in investigating the incident and bringing the accused to justice.

As the case moves forward, it serves as a reminder of the complexities and international reach of crimes that target U.S. service members abroad. Uribe Chiran will now face the full extent of U.S. law as she awaits her trial.

A Moment of Gratitude

We owe a deep sense of gratitude to the brave men and women of the U.S. military, who put their lives on the line every day to serve and protect. Their dedication and sacrifice, both at home and abroad, ensure the safety and freedom we often take for granted. In moments like these, it’s a reminder of the risks they face, even in places we may not expect.
