MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Big city crime rears its ugly head once again. A Minneapolis man, driven by rage, launched a terrifying attack on his property manager after learning that his lease wouldnât be renewed, according to newly filed criminal charges. This shocking incident only adds to the growing fears many people feel about safety in urban areas.
Ying Vang Jr., 59, is now facing charges of 2nd-degree attempted murder and 1st-degree assault in Hennepin County District Court after the Aug. 29 attack at an affordable senior housing complex on Snelling Avenue.
Vang Jr., armed with both a sledgehammer and an axe, allegedly busted through the locked office door before striking the property manager with a single, violent blow to the face and neck.
The victimâs wound stretched from beneath her right eye all the way down to her neck, severing an artery.
The sheer savagery of the attack is what nightmares are made of. This wasnât just an argument gone wrong â this was an intentional, violent act that could have easily ended in murder.

If it werenât for the quick actions of nearby residents who restrained the man until police arrived, itâs terrifying to think what else might have happened.
Police haven’t disclosed why Vang Jr.âs lease wasnât renewed, but previous reports indicate he had been evicted from another apartment in 2022 for failing to pay rent. Once again, itâs a reminder that when frustrations boil over in big cities, things can quickly turn deadly.
If convicted, Vang Jr. faces a possible 40-year prison sentence for attempted murder, with an additional 20 years for assault. But what kind of peace does that offer the victim, who must live with the trauma of this attack?
And for anyone else living in urban settings, itâs a chilling reminder of how dangerous city life can be. When anger explodes, itâs often the innocent who are left to suffer.
Vang Jr. remains in custody as the investigation continues.
